Glading Update – Fall 2018
There is a reason Scot Schmidt has said Island Lake has “some of the best steep tree skiing in North America”. Though much of it has occurred naturally, we also have an amazing glading crew that spends time each summer enhancing and tweaking runs.
Following is a little update from the gladers on what they have been up to this summer:
The Island Lake glading crew spent four months preparing the ski terrain and cat road system for this coming winter season. With a continued focus on safety, stewardship and creating some of the best powder habitat that can be found, the slopes will be ready for the first early season riders. As per usual, the professional crew was motivated by this opportunity. Expansion, improvement and maintenance of many of Island Lake’s classic lines took place over this past season. Runs such as Little Woody, Beer Run, Upper 5 Star, Faceshot Trees, SFT, The Nose, Sunnyside, White Wolf Ridge, and a good portion of Geisha Bowl have all had a makeover. Improvements were also made to some crucial aspects of the road network. Anticipation is high as the early season snow falls coat the peaks of the Lizard Range. The mountains are calling. See you all soon.
